Flushing & Mylor have just held two events to encourage new people to have a go at gig rowing. As part of British Rowing’s RowFest week of activities, we had a family day and an evening social rowing session.

Over the two sessions we introduced gig rowing to 25 new people, some of whom were holiday makers but the majority local residents.

On the Thursday night session, it turned out to be a perfect summer’s evening. Two gigs were rowed around from our boathouse at Kiln Quay to the steps below the Flushing Sailing Club. From there, new rowers had the chance to get out in the gig and afterwards the opportunity to speak to current club members and find out more about the sport. As well as partake in the delicious food which had been lain on by other members.

Thanks to Simon Thompson and all his helpers for co-ordinating.

If you didn’t manage to make these particular events, but would still like to have a go at gig rowing, please get in touch. Newcomers are welcome all year on to our Learn to Row programme.
