The club celebrated the launch of their new ‘British Rowing funded ‘learn to row’ project partnered with Truro & Penwith College. This was a double celebration as we completed the first ‘learn to row’ course with seven students using the two new plastic gigs that the project funding has enabled the club and the college to purchase. The course was run by Phil Pring from British Rowing over two days with six sessions completed so that each student will gain their ‘Learn to Row Passport’ The course was also supported by college staff Julie, Mark and Jock and Simon and Claire from the club.
We also celebrated the naming of the two gigs. Rodney Myers, our esteemed previous club chair, named the club gig ‘Flushing’ and Jack, one of the College Students, was nominated to name the college gig ‘Mylor’
This is a landmark development for the club as out of 50 British Rowing funded projects this is the only one for a gig club. The next courses with the college will start in their new academic year in September and the club will soon be offering their own ‘Learn to Row’ courses.
