More club records were set at the Mixed & Vets Championships in Saltash yesterday. With both of our Mixed Veterans crews making it through to the grand final of the day and finishing in 1st and 4th places out of 26 overall. Excellent results from both crews, neither of which had had any time to train together.
The flagship event, efficiently organised by Caradon Gig Club, was blessed with mostly dry weather but strong winds. With randomly selected boats in which to compete, the club donated Penarrow to the pool of available gigs, but our crews never found themselves using her.
Both crews also entered the Open Mixed event and consequently raced 5 or 6 times in all, making it as far as the semi-finals of the Open event. Well done to all and good luck to the men who are returning to race again today in the Men’s Vets Championships.
Crews at Caradon on the Saturday were: Mixed Vets (1st overall): Polly (cox), Jeremy, Frances, Andy, Paddy, Celia, Lynn (4th overall): Tommy (cox), Liz, Carol, Paul, Mike, Madeleine, Mark. Mixed Open: (Semi finalists): Tommy (cox), Jeremy Sally, Andy, Paddy, Celia, Lynn. (Quarter finalists) Polly (cox), Liz, Frances, Paul, Mike, Carol, Mark.
