Flushing & Mylor Pilot Gig Club has received a ￡20,000 funding boost from SITA Cornwall Trust to help build and purchase a new wooden gig for the club.
SITA Cornwall Trust provides funding through the Landfill Communities Fund which is available for community and environmental groups to carry out a range of improvement projects.
The funding allocated to Flushing & Mylor Pilot Gig Club will enable the club to add an additional gig to their existing complement of three. This will help the club to grow and meet the local community demand for all ages to get involved in gig rowing. It will particularly aid the club to grow its youth membership – naturally ensuring the future of Cornish Gig rowing.
FMPGC will be raising any shortfall in funding through their own fundraising activities.
Simon Thompson, Chair of the club, says that ‘The club is absolutely delighted that SITA Cornwall Trust has been able to support the club in its ambition to bring gig rowing to the broader local community’
