Flushing & Mylor were invited to take part in the Cornish Rowing Challenge in St. Mawes last week, as a result of our links with Annie Vernon – Cornish Olympic Rowing Silver Medallist. Club members competed in all three of the event races & even managed to get their rowing, & waving-behind-presenters’-heads, skills shown on the BBC’s ‘One Show’.
In the first race, in which some of the 11 Olympians present challenged gig crews to take them on in their sliding seat boats, the visiting rowing stars won hands down. But when they were put in a gig for the second race, they were fortunately left standing, with all the gig crews managing to beat them. Some club members then got to race in a mixed up crew consisting of gig rowers and Olympians & our Bridget was chosen to cox Helen Glover.
It was an amazing evening and one which will be remembered for a long time by rowers and supporters alike.
