Vito, Jamie and Fraser rowed in several events at helford regatta today, saturday 11th august.
It was all in the name of fun so Vito started with a determined attempt in the open race for anyone! He was up against mostly men and no other juniors and therefore had to row hard into a strong headwind to turn the furthest buoy on the course. His fierce and committed rowing saw him cross the finish line to great applause from the packed beach.
Next up jamie was joined by lynn for the ‘father and child’ race. The starter kindly let them join in and they crossed the line in a creditable 4th place. Jamie pulled hard against the breeze and swung the dinghy round the mark with great style, having never had to row side by side before.
Fraser and lynn were a more appropriate match for the ‘mother and child’ race and sprinted to a second place finish. Fraser showed a fine race pace and stylish rowing gave him a well deserved mug-winning place.
Penny, lynn and fraser raced the hotly contested ‘100 up’ class which is defined by the contestants having a combined age of 100 years. Whilst lynn and penny qualified on their own, fraser did a fine job of steering and helping the trim on the boat. A male crew won but the fmpgc crew held off the hot favorites from helford all the way to the line. They were pipped by a whisker to a creditable 3rd place.
Frances rowed the same race with her daughter Jo and granddaughter but they had a little more trouble travelling in a straight line…
Penny rowed again in the lady and gent race but boat trim again caused some trouble.
The sack race proved most dramatic, with both jamie and vito taking a tumble but isabella made it all the way to the finish line, whilst painted like a big cat.
