Starting quite a way off the St. Anthony Light, it was 3.2 miles back in to the finish line off the Maritime Museum, in calm seas and a light onshore breeze. All the boats started together and raced round the St. Mawes side of Black Rock (except a few crews who went the other side! I don’t think i’ve been in a race yet where all the coxes went the right way…), round a buoy off the end of the docks and into the museum quay.
Pinnacle had a great start and was in the top 8 boats for the first 3rd of the race. We dropped a few places on the main stretch of the course but when we hit Governor the pace was picked up again for the home leg.
Hugomar was just behind us most of the way but couldn’t catch up and we had a great battle with the William Peters where each boat got head for a time. After letting them ahead to round the final buoy, we stormed up behind and beat them to the finish by about 1/2 a boat length.
